...I maintain that incarcerating a depressed person to prevent him from killing himself, writing a prescription for a terminally ill patient, and aborting the healthy fetus of a healthy woman are procedures we accept as legally permissible medical interventions, but they are not medical treatments, because the conditions they "treat" are not diseases. Each is an instance of self-deception and social deception in the interest of evading personal responsibility and/or legal prohibition.
