ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

The special branch of AI known as robotics deals with sensory pattern recognition (including visual scene, object and word recognition, and auditory sound and speech recognition), model revision and plan updating, and motor action (including language production). Visual scene recognition and motor action have been challenging tasks.

At first it was thought that progress in understanding sensory and motor processes would proceed rapidly, while understanding “higher” mental processes would be much more difficult. On the contrary, it has proved easier to simulate processes that we associate with doctors. lawyers. and scientists than processes we associate with tractor drivers or acrobats.
